From the moment that I headed to the hospital to deliver Zelda, there was one particular item I knew would play a huge role in our lives. It is something that isn’t frequently discussed and yet, we spend a significant amount of time looking for it: the perfect bag. There is an evolution to the bags we carry post baby delivery. It begins as the bag we pack for the hospital and then becomes our baby bag. Next, most of us realize our baby bag doesn’t work and begin the quest for our next bag (i.e. the perfect bag). At this point, we usually transition into a tote or backpack and the trial and error game begins. Usually, the bag ends up being too big or too small and we end up ditching what we have all together. For the past three and a half years, I’ve been on the search for the bag.

I began motherhood with an open top tote and quickly realized it was a ridiculous purchase. Every time I knocked it over I made a spectacle of myself. Each item in the bag would roll onto the floor, creating a scene. Once I ditched the tote, I moved onto a monogrammed Gucci baby bag and once again, realized it wasn’t for me. It was too flashy and since I live in Chicago, it made me feel like a robbery target. Ever since then, I’ve been searching for the perfect backpack. The beautiful armoire in my bedroom used to full of quilted crossbody designer bags. Today, it is overflowing with backpacks.

Luckily, right before the holiday my quest ended. I was gifted a black leather extra large Clava backpack and it has sustained every test. It’s been on our family road trip, a ski outing, to the mall, to the zoo and beyond. It has been everywhere! I felt like I needed to share because I know I’m not the only one who has struggled to find the Holy Grail of backpacks. People have stopped me to ask about this bag more than any other bag I’ve carried in 2017. This bag isn’t fancy and it doesn’t have a designer price tag – it’s $250. The Clava backpack is a game changer and it a bag you will have forever. The drawstrings will wear in, the leather will get beaten up and thirty years from now, you’ll reference it as “that bag you’ve had forever”. It is a lifer.

My friends are hooking us up through the end of February. You can snag 20% off the entire Clava site with the code GLITTER20! They also offer monograming (check out mine in the photo below) and if you order now, you can have your bag in time for Valentine’s Day! Think a wallet for your man and a bag for you (I’ve been eyeing the reversible camo tote).
