The long weekend is almost here, let the activity planning begin! Here in Chicago it’s supposed to beautiful, so get out there and make the most of it. For those of you heading out of town, we’ve rounded up a couple of activities to get you in the patriotic spirit.

Fireworks at Navy Pier: For obvious reasons, this is a popular activity! That being said, you should arrive early whether you want to watch the fireworks on Saturday, July 2nd or on Monday the 4th. If you’re going on Saturday (July 2nd) the fireworks begin at 10:15pm, and on Monday they start at 9:30pm. So remember get there early, stay safe and have fun!
Cooking Camp at The Kids Table: The Kids Table has a variety of cooking camps all summer long. Next week’s focuses on super foods and features menus for kids 4-6 years and also 7-10 years. This camp gets started on Tuesday the 5th and concludes on Friday the 8th with times varying based on location (they’re located in Wicker Park and Lakeview). See their website for pricing.
The Terracotta Warriors at The Field Museum: History buffs big and small will enjoy this one. The Field Museum’s new exhibit has artifacts from the tomb of China’s first emperor, including a glimpse at the Terracotta Warriors he assembled to guard him in the afterlife. Tickets are $26 for children and $38 for adults.
Chicago Botanic Garden Art Festival: Going on July 2nd and 3rd from 10am-5pm, this art festival is a great way to find new local artists and get outdoors! If you’ve never been, the space is beautiful, both you and your babe will enjoy exploring this hidden treasure. The art on display fits with the nature theme, and there’s a space where your little can flex their creative muscles. The event is free, parking rates can be found here.
StoryTime at Barnes and Noble: Head to Barnes and Noble at Webster Place for story time on Saturday (July 2nd) at 11am. This week’s story is Hello, My Name is Octicorna tale on fitting in. More fun follows after the story concludes so stick around!
Lego Mini Model Build: This event is for Lego VIP members (you can sign up here) and allows members to build a mini frog in-store. When you’re done he gets to go home with you! Going on July 5th and 6th, kids between the ages of 6 and 14 can participate at the Water Tower location, and must build the frog in-store before taking it home. Visit the sign up page for times!
Visitors and residents alike will love these fun events going on this weekend in NYC. If your weekend agenda needs a little more, consider these activities!
Bake Red, White and Blue Cupcakes at Taste Buds Kitchen: This activity is for the younger set (ages 2-5) and gets going at 9am on Saturday the 2nd. You and your babe can bake 4th of July themed cupcakes, a patriotic way to kick off the holiday weekend. Tickets are $40 for one child and one adult.
Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks: This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Macy’s fireworks, an event filled with music and fun! If you’re in the city they have a list of multiple spots to view, or if you want to catch it at home (or elsewhere across the country!) you can see it at 8pm EST on NBC!
