What to Do This Weekend: Summer Nature Fest, $1 Movies & More!

Zelda and I are living that #lakelife this weekend, but for those of you still in the city there is plenty to do. We’ve got a few dinosaur fanatic friends who will flip over the Jurassic World exhibition and dollar movies are the perfect remedy for those steamy days Chicago has been having. I’m also making note of Jeni’s new birthday program, as a certain babe has one coming up

Jurassic World Exhibition at the Field Museum: Dinosaur lovers and fans of the movie will love this new exhibit at the Field Museum. To see it you need to purchase an add-on pass with museum admission or get an all access pass, which you can do here in advance!

Free Birthday Ice Cream at Jeni’s: Our go to ice cream shop has just kicked off their birthday program, so if you come in on your special day you can get free ice cream to celebrate!

$1 Movies at Regal Cinema in Logan Square: All summer long the Regal Cinema in Logan Square hosts Summer Movie Express with showings of your favorite movies for just one dollar. They run on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and the films change week to week. Next Tuesday the 18th and Wednesday the 19th they are showing Rio 2 and The Boxtrolls. Call the theater to double check showtimes!

The Madagascar Musical at Navy Pier: This just opened on Thursday, and is sure to be a hit for fans of the movie! Tickets range from $22-34 and can be purchased here. Just a heads up, the show runs for a little over an hour and does not have an intermission, so prepare accordingly with your crew!

Build For A Cause at Legoland: Legoland in Schaumburg is swapping out their bricks for brand new ones, which means there are a TON of old bricks that need new homes! But these aren’t going in the trash, they are going to be donated. Through the end of the month little builders can go to the second floor, pick one of four organizations and use their imaginations to create something magical to donate to their selected charity.

Summer Nature Fest at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum: On Wednesday, July 19th from 5pm to 8pm, have some fun at Summer Nature Fest at the Nature Museum in Lincoln Park. It’s free and has a ton of activities for the whole family. You do need to RSVP, which you can do here.

Oh NYC, it’s been too long! There is nothing like summer in New York, and there is never a shortage of fun.

Central Park: This one is kind of a given, but if you haven’t been in awhile it is great to spend the afternoon there. They have a zoo, playgrounds and so much more. Oh, and it’s free!

Family Art Workshop at the Museum of Modern Art: Sunday, July 16th at 9am your little can spend their morning at MoMa (you have to stick around too) for a fun workshop. This time they will be building a dome, and while it’s free you do still need to register.
