TGIF! Chicago is an incredible city, especially in the summertime! With no lack of things to do, try something out-of-the-box with your babes. From a pop-up design studio at Frank Lloyd Wright’s Robie House to petting stingrays at the aquarium, we’re giving you the scoop on all the best happenings this weekend. Looking to get out of town without going too far? The sleepy beach town of St. Joseph, Michigan is about an hour and a half away (and almost straight across the lake), and we’re letting you in on two of our favorite stops to make with littles. So, what are you waiting for? It’s time to starting planning your fantastic weekend!

Preschool Storytime: This Saturday, July 23rd hit the Barnes and Noble at State and Elm for preschool storytime. This weekend’s read is Too Many Moose, an adorable tale about friendship and fun. This reading is a free event and begins at 11am.
Tea Time at American Girl: Every Saturday at 4pm you can take your babes to experience tea time! Sip hot or iced tea, hot chocolate, pink lemonade or milk while dining on tea sandwiches, turkey meatballs, chocolate chip cheesecake, strawberry mousse and more!  Reservations are recommended.
Pop Up Design Studio: Taking place at Frank Lloyd Wright’s stunning Robie House, this workshop caters to future architects. Littles will love this hands-on activity that allows them to use their creativity to create something special. Admission is free for all ages and workshops begin at 11am and 1pm.
Stingray Touch: Calling all tiny underwater explorers! This extraordinary event is something the entire family will enjoy at the Shedd Aquarium. Babes and parents alike get to dip their hands into a shallow pool and touch the stingrays as they swim around. While petting each stingray, babes will also learn how to care for and protect them in their natural habitat. This experience is included with a Total Experience Pass or can be added on to a General Admission ticket for $5.
The Disability Pride Parade: In its 13th year, this parade promotes the importance of inclusion. Bring your babes to show them this celebration of diversity and acceptance. The parade begins at 11am at 401 South Plymouth Court and ends at the Daley Plaza on Washington Street.
Taste of River North: Sample local neighborhood fare, play games with your kiddos and listen to music on the river! This yummy event features food from Taco Joint, The Kerryman, Kinzie Chophouse, Da Lobsta, Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse, El Hefe and more! A $5 donation is suggested upon entry.
Just across the lake is a quiet little beach town in Michigan called St. Joseph. One of the most beautiful cities in the state, this destination is home to stunning beaches, eclectic shopping, delicious food and more! It’s an easy place to travel for the rest and relaxation associated with a weekend getaway, without the stress of packing up and hopping on a plane with kids in tow. You’ll come back on Monday feeling refreshed and your babes will have had so much fun!

The Whirlpool Compass Fountain: A beloved place of local littles, this fountain provides hours of entertainment. With almost thirty water jets and just under ten water cannons, your children will want to splash around for hours.
Silver Beach Carousel: This iconic carousel is a must ride. With forty-eight hand painted and hand carved carousel figures, babes will have so much choosing which animal to ride on. This magical attraction is located right next door to Silver Beach Pizza, so once little’s have their fill of spinning ‘round and ‘round, head next door and grab a slice. The carousel is $2 per ride.
