I think we can all agree that we are completely over winter now that we have been teased with spring. I always joke that spring brings out another life – you become the beautiful you, with a fresh glow, and it’s easy to rock a new pair of jeans with sandals on your feet. When it comes to selecting beauty products it’s a little different. These days, it can be intimidating and overwhelming because there are so many bloggers that are getting paid for sponsored posts. You find yourself thinking, “Does it really work or is she just getting paid to endorse it? Does she really love it? Are her lines smoother? Are her lips brighter and bolder?”
To answer these questions, I thought I would put together a list of new products that I’ve picked up for spring that I’m completely crushing on (and not being paid to endorse). This will be a two-series post. This one will include all my favorite department store buys — these are a bit pricier, but SO worth the investment. Next week, I’ll be posting all of my favorite budget-friendly drugstore buys. I allowed myself to indulge over the last couple of weeks (I pretty much blacked out and bought everything I’ve been wanting to try), and I literally feel like I have a new face. I’m really into my skin lately because as you get older things start to change a little bit. It has become a huge focus for me, so here we go.
Sold at Blue Mercury, it’s a cocktail of seven powerful peptides and includes Vitamin C that works to plump and reduce the appearance of fine lines. I’ve been using this every night before I go to bed, and have noticed a nice glow and that my lines have reduced a bit. Unfortunately, I still have several fine lines hanging out around my eyes that I’m not too fond of but have been working with Pinski Dermatology to implement a preventive and maintenance program. If you follow me on Instagram you might have seen my first appointment in my Insta Stories last week (see below). Let’s just say it was one of the most eye opening doctor’s visits I have ever had!
Personally, I struggle with serums. Most of the time I find them to be too oily, but I know how important they are to use. I apply this morning and night, and am a huge fan because it dries matte. My skin feels smooth and it doesn’t feel like foil has been applied to my face. It’s the perfect base to use before moisturizing and I love it for summer. Just make sure to put it on before you apply your sunscreen!
Several weeks ago, Kiehl’s invited me to experience their new custom apothecary preparations. They performed a dehydration analysis on my skin and it was so dry the woman performing the analysis looked at me like I was another lifeform. I had just walked off a very long international flight, so that may have contributed to my dryness, or maybe I was just drier than most people she sees. Whatever the reason, it instantly scared the shit out me.
They also asked what I wanted to focus on and I selected brightening, moisturizing and wrinkle reducing. I am really struggling with these fine lines around my eyes you guys! After the analysis, they made me a custom concentrate. Since it contains retinol, I’ve been using it at night. I’ve never used anything with retinol before so I was a little scared, but it has been a game changer. My skin started to change around day ten and has truly brightened. I only use three drops before bed — it’s super simple and most importantly, noticeable.
If angels were towels, this would be them. These are more expensive, they come out to almost a dollar a towel, but are so worth it. It’s more than just a makeup remover, it’s like a second cleanse. I usually wash my face and then run a towelette over my skin and it feels perfect. I’m a little crazy, so if I don’t run the whole towelette over my face (like if I just use it to remove under eye makeup) then I save it and use it again.
At the time of purchase I was told these were lip plumpers, but was a little reluctant that a patch was going to plump my lip. And while it did give my lips a little boost, don’t expect to look like one of the Real Housewives rolling out of the doctor’s office. More than anything this is a moisturizer. If you live somewhere like Chicago, these are great because your lips really do take a beating. It’s like a conditioning mask for your lips and it only takes 5 minutes!
This easy-to-wear foundation is awesome if you don’t want to use a ton of product and are on the go. It’s almost like a tinted moisturizer but it fills your pores and dries with a super soft matte finish. Apply, put on a few swipes of mascara and you’re ready to drop the kids off at school or run to a play date.
This stuff is INSANE. You simply run the stick over your face and pat it in with your fingers. If you have a little more time you can also use a foundation brush (which I recommend). No one likes to carry around a bottle of foundation and you can throw this stick in your purse and touch up on the go. I’m completely obsessed with it. It is on the pricier side, but a little bit goes a long way!
When I originally saw the price tag on this powder I died inside. I could never imagine spending over $100 for a powder, but the girl at the counter promised me that it was equivalent to airbrushing my face. I was a little reluctant, but because she’s my girl I took her word for it and I’m so glad I did. It truly looks like I airbrushed my skin and again, a little goes a long way. This seems to be the theme with Cle de Peau cosmetics, you only need a little bit. Be very careful not to drop it, or you’re going to have a bad day with a broken compact. The good news is that it is refillable, so the second time around is cheaper than the initial buy.
This has been around for a long time but I just purchased it for the first time in pink quartz. I’m really into the glowy bronzed look, but because I have a naturally transparent complexion, sometimes bronzing can look a little crazy. That’s why I love the shimmer in this compact, it’s like a blush and bronzer in one.
I purchased this in the pink opal duo. I love this compact, don’t be intimidated that it is a cream blush and illuminator! The illuminator is perfect around the eyes and it can also go on the lips. It’s easy to blend and depending on what you’re going for, you can use a little or a lot. A little goes a long way, so I would start out slow and then build. Don’t use too much or you’ll get the dewy look. My daughter told me the other day that I looked wet after I came out of the bathroom, so I had to matte it down. Just be careful!
This is truly one of the best neutral palettes that I’ve ever purchased. The eyeshadows are rich, creamy and go on smoothly. It’s easy to apply and each color builds well on top of the next. I’m obsessed with these shadows.
This pen is so much fun! If you were a child of the ‘90s you’re going to have a major crush on this. We all remember those color changing pens that let us write notes in multiple colors, and now you can use one on your face. There are three eyeliners (black, brown and blue) and a lip liner inside of the pen. It’s easy to throw in your purse and is one cool nostalgic throwback!
I’m currently crushing on this entire hair line. The products are super innovative and the packaging is some of the best I’ve ever seen. Be careful if you get in front of the entire display, you might black out and drain your bank account! It’s that good.
This is the best pomade if you want your hair to have that wavy, beachy look. We have all tried to do it, but sometimes it can end up looking greasy. With this pomade, you only need about a finger tips worth. I just rub it in my hand and then run it through my tips for the perfect finish.
