SAIC’s annual fashion show, The Walk, featuring student work is this Friday, May 2nd at Millennium Park. Their program has been around for 80 years, and during it’s existence had several recognizable graduates like Cynthia Rowley, Halston, and Creatures of the Wind, and that’s just a few! Below is a preview of the amazing work that will be showcased, not to mention there will be three performances from Nick Cave! This is truly a must see event, and you can get your tickets right here!

THE-WALK

Aesthetically influenced by a Japanese biker gang, the Bosozuka, Halpern’s collection now focuses on the universal fear of loneliness and the desire for protection.

Rosa-Halpern

This collection is inspired by artist Robert Delaunay’s paintings when he was moving into pure abstraction from 1908-1912. With a focus on his theories on color; and how, by placing contrasting colors next to one another it creates movement and rhythm.

Amanda-Vaeth

Sprung from the 1939 The Wizard of Oz movie, mood, and cult classic context. Perrera’s collection is inspired by the Land of Oz with its stunningly gorgeous and fantastically magical elements in a surreal landscape.

Symantha-Perrera  In addition to showcasing the amazing student talent, this year Nick Cave is their Legend of Fashion Honoree. His work as a performance artist has had great influence on the fashion world (he’s been featured in Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar to name a few!) with his use of not only fashion, but a variety of medias such as music, dance and art.
