As of late, I’ve been receiving a ton of questions about face makeup. Finding what is right for you and how to apply it can be extremely frustrating, and expensive if you’re constantly buying new product. While sometimes the best way to learn is through trial and error, I’m here to help!
Let’s try to alleviate some stress and find out what is right for you. My golden rule of face makeup application is that it must be applied with a brush. This ensures that it goes on evenly and you won’t use as much product, which ultimately means more money in your pocket. What’s your current face makeup routine?

Nars Tinted Moisturizer / Kiehl’s Tinted Moisturizer / Bare Minerals Tinted Moisturizer
The thing to remember about tinted moisturizers is that they are going to give you lighter coverage. The color pigment used in tinted moisturizers is less than in foundation. So if you’re skin is prone to acne, or you have scarring, this probably isn’t for you.  If you have a drier skin type and don’t require much coverage, tinted moisturizer is your new best friend! It’s meant to even out your skin tone, and give it the moisture that it needs.
It’s very important to pick a shade that is as close to your skin tone as possible, and I always prefer a tinted moisturizer that contains SPF. There’s nothing worse than piling on layers of makeup and sunscreen.

Giorgio Armani Maestro Foundation / Dior Spray Foundation / Laura Mercier Foundation
If you seek heavier coverage, or your skin is on the oilier side, foundation is the way to go (you can find many oil-free versions). It will correct skin tone and diminish the appearance of imperfections. There are many foundations that range from pressed powder, to creams and liquids, but no matter what you choose you should ALWAYS apply it with a brush, it makes a huge difference.
My absolute favorite foundation is Giorgio Armani Maestro Foundation. It feels super light on my skin, gives me the coverage that I need, and contains an SPF. If you have drier skin, I recommend using a moisturizer before you apply it.

Cle de Peau Concealer / Nars Concealer / MAC Concealer
In the world of concealer it’s been my experience that you get what you pay for. While I can appreciate not wanting to spend a ton of money on something so small, there really isn’t anything better than Cle de Peau Concealer (especially if you’re a new mom). It’s worth every penny because it lasts all day and conceals dark circles without looking like you have anything on.
I only have to replace it around every 6 months or so, so I’m not constantly running out to buy new concealer. If you don’t want to make the commitment, I also love NARS and MAC, they both go on smoothly, but you might have to do a light touch up in the late afternoon.
