Last night’s Emmys showed us a lot of trends that we’ll be seeing more of in the coming cooler months. We saw a lot of classic all black ensembles on the red carpet, which I liked a lot! Where we did see color it was done in unexpected ways, with patterns both bold and subtle. I saw some great hair and makeup looks that I can’t wait to try out as well! Then of course for some celebs, there’s always next year!
Julie Bowen: The interesting neckline on Julie’s George Chakra dress kept things from feeling too boring, and she looks anything but! She went with minimal accessories and perfectly imperfect hair, well done Julie!
Taraji P Henson: Taraji’s custom Alexander Wang dress is just so good! It does have a lot going on (chain straps, cutout, sheer skirt) but it’s all done in a minimal way so that one element doesn’t overpower another. Gorgeous!
Lady Gaga: Talk about unexpected! This is a much more toned down Lady Gaga than we’re used to seeing, though I must say it suits her. Her stylist Brandon Maxwell designed her gorgeous gown, and I think it complements her perfectly.
Ellie Kemper: This is a great example of wearing the print, and not letting the print wear you! I love everything about Ellie’s dress, and her choice to keep accessories and hair pared back. Her subtle but noticeable smokey eye was the perfect finishing touch.
Claire Danes: Claire Dane’s purple Prada gown was perfection, and I loved it even more once I saw the details! How awesome are those chain accents?! This is how you do glam with a bit of edge.
Heidi Klum: There’s a lot going on here, and unfortunately none of it’s good. From the color to the mix of different textures, it’s a no for me. Sorry Heidi!
January Jones: While I appreciate January going for something other than a gown, this jumpsuit is just not working for me, especially with that flounce!
