“Beach hair, do care!” is my new summer motto.

Last week I was lucky enough to go on vacation with my family and a couple of my BFFs in the Dominican Republic. One of those people included my girlfriend Amanda aka BloHaute, who many of you are probably familiar with from our Instagram Live or YouTube video tutorials. Having someone there to do my hair on vacation was one of the greatest things in the world. However, I realize this isn’t possible for most of us unless you are Beyoncé, or your best friend is a hair stylist. I learned so much from her on vacation and I feel like I must share. She showed up for our week-long vacation with only three hair products and these were the only products she used the entire week, so take note.

When it comes to summer or tropical destination weather there is one thing no one can hide from: humidity. It doesn’t matter who you are or what type of hair you have, it will come for you. The Oribe Anti-Humidity spray is a game changer because it shields your hair from frizz. There is nothing worse than getting ready, giving yourself a sleek blow out or styling perfect waves and then having your hair turn into a frizzy mess before walking out the door. This product is my go-to when it’s hot out and it is worth the investment. It is Oribe which means you might have to kick the coffee for a week or make a small sacrifice because it is a little pricy, but you will thank yourself later.

Amore Pacific

Most importantly, you MUST protect your skin! As you know, I’ve really been into my skin over the last year.  It would make no sense to go on vacation and reverse all the work I’ve done. I lived in Amore sunscreen and I didn’t get any burn. I wore more sunscreen on this vacation than I’ve ever worn in my life. I even went and picked up a sun shirt at the resort and found it was an excellent piece to have in my arsenal to keep me protected.

Ouai Soft Mouse

If you need to give your hair a little bit of texture and hold, the Ouai Texture Hairspray is the way to go. I will say it repeatedly until I’m blue in the face, this is the absolute best.

Tularosa swim top

The top is cute, but I do have a smaller chest. If you’re a bit bustier, I wouldn’t get the triangle top because it is on the smaller size. For reference, I purchased a size medium and adore this suit.

Tularosa swim bottom

I found what I believe is the perfect mom-kini – it is sexy, it is chic, and it comes in a variety of colors. When it comes to swimwear I like to venture out and wear colors I might not normally pick. I found this Willa bikini and I ended up purchasing a third piece for it while I was sitting on the beach because I loved the bottoms so much. I wanted to be able to change the top for summer! It has a nice high cut which allows you to tuck yourself in.

Rayban sunglasses

Sunglasses! Everyone loves a fantastic pair of sunglasses. However, when it comes to the beach or the pool, I get a little scared rocking my more expensive frames. The odds of them getting broken or lost is extremely high. I love to buy disposable sunglasses anytime I’m going on vacation and ASOS has a ton of amazing options for under $20. I do always pack a nicer pair of glasses for when I’m walking around the resort or going to dinner. I love these Ray-Bans  and they are at a price point where if you do lose them, it won’t totally crush you.

Bobbi Pins

Bobby pins are the key to any kind of braid or updo and I don’t mean just any bobby pins. Don’t go for the drugstore ones because guess what? They barely have any hold. Who would have known? Not me! I had no idea until Amanda introduced me to MetaGrip bobby pins. You can pick them on Amazon (they’ll be at your house before the end of the day) and they have SUPER hold! These are some tough bobby pins and are exactly what you need anytime you braid your hair or put it up. Get these three magical products and you will have the best summer hair you’ve ever had in your life. I promise I am not over-exaggerating. I mean, look at my hair and how fantastic it looks! (Thanks, Amanda!!)

Stud Earrings

When it comes to earrings, I prefer to wear studs. This way, Zelda isn’t grabbing at my ears and my hair isn’t getting caught in big earrings. I rock a little ‘Z’ stud all the time in one of my ears. It gives me a nice little something without being too much.

Jeweled Choker

I’m not one to wear a lot of jewellery on the beach but I do like to have a little something. I usually go for something more delicate and more importantly, something inexpensive. You don’t want to ruin your vacation over an expensive piece of lost jewellery. This Swarovski crystal choker has been floating around Instagram (a lot of people are rocking it right now) and I loved it so much I had to go out and get it. It’s right around $100 and is the perfect dainty piece. It has a little sparkle, is easy to adjust from a necklace to a choker and looks beautiful when layering.

Having the products doesn’t mean your hair will do itself. I have a ton of tutorials on the blog that are easy to follow, but here is something important I learned: simply start twisting and braiding. Anything pulled back with texture is beautiful. We filmed this video together on the beach and Amanda demonstrates some really cool techniques, especially when she shows how to pull out a twist. Wrap your ponytail with a wrap twist instead of showing the rubber band — these are little things you can do to elevate your hair and when you’re on vacation, time is on your side. Why not try something new? I promise you will learn something in this video!
