Angelica Calad

POMP Kids was a long dream come true for Angelica Calad, though you might know her as Taylensmom on Instagram, who graduated from The Art Institute of Ft. Lauderdale at the top of her class.  With her fashion marketing/merchandising background, Angelica has been able to set up many fashion brands, work hands-on with designers and even host her own fashion events in her area.  With the birth of POMP Kids, Angelica has been able to showcase her love for kids apparel and her desire to dress the little ones with her unique designs and handpicked collections.

With Taylen as her muse, Angelica prides herself on only making and designing products that would be worn by her own little fashionista. POMP Kids’ mission is to display the strength, confidence, and style that lives within every little one.  POMP Kids celebrates the unique mystery that shines through today’s youth.

How many children do you have? What inspired their names?

Josh and I are the parents of 2 very sweet and inspiring littles.  Their names are very unique and special to each one – Taylen Kai is 2 years old, her first name Taylen, was “love at first sight” for us – as soon as we saw it we knew that would be her name!  We love different sounding names, spelled differently and with a fairy tale twist. Her middle name was inspired by the -ocean life- as “Kai” means ocean.  Her father and his side of the family are Florida natives with a very strong and sacred love for the beach and ocean life. It was only natural to name her with a ‘vibe’ of their salt life passion.
Aleia Grace is 6 months old, and her name was inspired by a dear friend of ours who saw a dessert with that name written on it and sent it our way just one day before I was giving birth! We didn’t really have a name until that very moment, and when we saw her text we instantly fell in LOVE with the name ‘Aleia’.  Grace is in honor of my beloved and very missed Grandmother on my dad’s side of the family, once we put both names together we knew that would be our angel’s name.

What’s your favorite way to spend time with your family?

We truly love being at home, they say home is where the heart is at and we truly feel that way.  Along with our dogs, our kids and in the middle of what we have created for them. Each space of our home was designed with them in mind.  Other places we love to visit with our girls are the Keys and of course happy Land- also known as Disney World!

Are their any children’s brands you find yourself buying over and over again?

Oh my! This is hard for me to answer as I’m a huge advocate of so many designers and handmade shops.  For bigger items I love Stokke, Baby Brezza, Apple Park Kids, Spearmint Baby and I love the lines of furniture and items that Fawn Shoppe offers. In regards to accessories I’m a huge fan of Love Crush Bowtique, Pura Vida Bracelets and KenzieJaws Flower crowns.  Now, kids fashion clothing lines I love so many, but some that stand out right now are House of Mia, Tutu Du Monde, Bacabuche, Rylee and Cru, Hux Baby, Wrare Doll, Louise Misha, Harpas Nest, Elskan and Kardashian Kids.  Some amazing online shops that we frequent are KHM Kids, My Munchkinmall and Minikin.  Of course, you will always find my girls wearing POMP Kids (a line inspired by my girls and the Instagram community).

How has motherhood affected your personal style?

Definitely my eye is different now, I used to have more of a neutral wardrobe but today you will find more colorful palettes in my closet!  I love bright pastels mixed with monochromatic shades.  Neons are always fun with some black and denim but you will always find me in a classic blazer! I have always been a huge fan of finishing a look with a nice blazer or jacket.

What is your favorite thing about being a mom?

I feel like motherhood is everything I was preparing for, in my 20s I had a blast with friends, I traveled for a living and was able to graduate with my BS in Fashion Marketing and I accomplished everything I wanted.  At 30 I had Taylen, giving me the right time to let go of my old life and dedicate my full attention to my girls.

I am so thankful for the opportunity to not only work from home, be a stay a home mom but to also be fully involved in the raising and upbringing of my girls.  My life is so full of little giggles, cute things, color and little voices! And I love every single moment of it, even when we have those dreaded temper tantrums.  I love raising tiny humans! I love knowing that every moment matters and learning to be a kid again!

What’s the hardest thing about being a mom?

I think the hardest thing is knowing there will be a time when you have to let go, the moment will come and I’m sure I will cry myself to sleep every night.  I now understand my mom’s pain when I moved out, oh man! I don’t want that day to come.

Has your beauty routine changed at all since you’ve had kids?

I’ve never been a huge fan of make up, but definitely some habits have changed.  I live for my moisturizers and lipgloss but anything more is just way too much now.  My days are dedicated to my girls.

What have you learned from your kids?

I feel like they have taught me everything my mother once taught me, to live in the moment, cherish every second, see life in color and believe in fairy tales!

What is your favorite, easy, go-to recipe that your kids love?

Taylen LOVES shakes! My favorite recipe book for shakes is “The Oh She Glows Cookbook” by Angela Liddon.  My favorite shake is a Mango one, and takes just 2-3 min to make!
