What To Put on Your Weekend to Do List

When you need a little break from the shopping and wrapping rotation, take your crew out of the house. If you’re feeling a little burnt out from holiday madness take a break and head to the Garfield Park Conservatory and let those tropical-like temps wash over you. If you close your eyes it almost feels like you are in the Caribbean (almost). Still embracing the holiday spirit? My top pick this week is The Nutcracker, but hurry, hurry — tickets are selling out fast! Can’t make it to either of these events? Don’t worry I’ve included many more in this week’s round up.

Morning Glories at the Garfield Park Conservatory: Every Monday the Conservatory hosts a family event called Morning Glories, and on the 19th from 10am-12pm it’s all about making Winter Solstice Bundles! This is a free event and ideal for kids who are between 3 and 5 years old.

The Nutcracker at the Joffrey Ballet: This classic is a must for the holiday season. The dancing, costumes, music and magical sets will be appreciated most by slightly older children who don’t mind sitting for a while. You can see a full list of times and tickets here.

Age Of The Dinosaurs Exhibit at Northbrook Court: For the babes who can’t get enough of dinosaurs, this one’s for them! It’s located above the AMC on the second floor and gives littles a glimpse into the life of dinosaurs, roaring included! Don’t wait though, this exhibit makes its exit on December 31st.

Free Admission Day at The Field Museum: On Sunday, December 18th get regular admission free if you are an Illinois resident. This is the perfect way to spend a chilly day, and they have so much to do and see that littles won’t want to leave!

Holiday Tea at American Girl: This is Zelda’s pick for the week! Tea time and her American Girl doll? She is in heaven! Reservations are required for the event which starts today at 4pm at the American Girl Place in Water Tower. Get the full run down here

Holiday Bricktacular at LEGOLAND: The LEGO fanatic in your house will love LEGOLAND, whether it’s their first visit or their fifth! Right now they have a “Holiday Bricktacular” exhibit going on, a fun way to put a holiday twist on your visit! Tickets start at $15 and can be booked online.

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH

Salt Lake City, we are jealous of your beautiful snow covered mountains! While Zelda and I have never been, it’s on our bucket list. If we were there now we’d be bundling up and heading out to check out these activities.

December Kid's Activities in Salt Lake City, Utah featuring ice skating and the Wizard of Oz.

The Wizard of Oz at the Utah Children’s Theater: Created for kids who are 4 years old and over, catch a showing of this classic tale. They have various dates to choose from, and tickets are $16. They are available for purchase online.

Ice Skating at the Gallivan Center: Hit the ice with your family! Kids ages 4 through 12 are $8 each and adults are $9. Check times here before you go (they start to vary closer to the holidays).
