I love gardening, composting, and recycling.

There are so many ways to be green and while society still has a ways to go, there are many resources that make it easy for us to take better care of our environment. My FAVORITE way to be green is to recycle, especially clothes and accessories 🙂 I love shopping at vintage markets and online (shopedropoff – obviously). When I no longer love items in my closet, I first offer them to family and friends and if I have no takers, they are donated to charity.

I love growing my own vegetables, and buying sustainably-farmed, local food.

My favorite way to be green is constantly editing and going through my closet to make sure that what I haven’t worn in the past year either gets donated to Goodwill or Special Olympics. Newer items I might sell and then whatever doesn’t sell definitely gets donated. I don’t like to keep tons of clothes around if I’m not going to wear them. Laundry detergent and water gets wasted on constantly washing clothes that aren’t being worn, when someone else could benefit or actually wear them. Less is more for me so I love keeping things simple 🙂

Hello Corri, I like to think that my lifestyle includes eco-friendy choices in every aspect of my life. Starting from the cosmetics I use on a daily basis, I try to find organic products (sunscreens, moisturizers, make-up, shampoos…). This can be difficult at times, especially in comparison to some “not-so-green” choices, however still doable and worthwhile. Also, while shopping for groceries I try to opt for vegetables and fruit form local farms as opposed to groceries from the supermarket, which most of time are not organic. At the same time, my family uses and reuses recyclable store bags while shopping. Last but not least, we recycle our garbage. I believe that with every small step any of us makes, we set an example for others and thereby have a chance to make a difference in our society -locally and globally.

I take public transit, turn off and unplug all electronics when not in use, and I make my own green cleaners!

I have started a recycling program in my office and we no longer use styrofoam cups, plates, or bowls. We take our cans to the recycling center and donate the money to charity!
At home, I try to shop locally, minimize my water usage by brushing my teeth in the shower, only running the dishwasher when it’s completely full, and reusing sturdy take out containers for leftovers or to give out food after a party. I also take leftover veggies and make them into a vegetable soup or a casserole! I hate wasting food! There are so many ways to minimize our footprint on our planet!

I turn off any and all lights when not in use, and got light timers so that I don’t have to leave lamps burning all day (in the winter especially, when I get home and it’s dark out). Hubs and I also turned our water heater down so that doesn’t run as much (plus it means shorter showers, since there’s not as much hot water to be had). I’ve also been thrifting more, instead of buying new, and trying to do more DIY as well.

I have a bunch of reusable bags I keep in each car. I utilize conference bags and free canvas bags they give away at summer festivals. I always have a bag ready for shopping.
Katie
I do simple everyday actions to stay green like always turning lights off, not letting my water run, using reusable totes to shop, carrying a reusable water bottle with me, & ride my bike whenever possible.
Jenna
I compost and recycle! I try to only buy local meats and vegetables!
Mel
I always carry reusable totes when I shop – can’t stand using plastic bags. I don’t buy or use harsh chemicals while house cleaning. Also, like so many other people who previously commented, I donate old clothing or household items – that are still in great shape – to Good Will.

Overall I would say that my favorite ways of being “Green” stem from reusing and giving items a new purpose. You have a book shelf or chair you no longer want. No problem. I will gladly take that off your hands and with the my husband, make it a gem. Old socks and tee shirts are the best cleaning rags ever. And with my boys, there is never any shortage of them. I also use a lot of found objects in art pieces and even make candle holders/ flower vases out of old giant pickle jars and liquor bottles. This multi media piece even has a baby gate in it.file:///C:/Users/Jenny/Downloads/babygate.jpg
