Last year we had one of THE coolest Glitter and Bubbles events at the Museum of Science and Industry. The museum has become one of my go-to places for littles (and the rest of the fam!) to let their imaginations soar. We were so lucky to be able to work with Crystal Bowyer, Director of External Affairs at the MSI, who is one of the raddest moms, and we are so happy to have met!

We can’t believe how much this mama has accomplished! From taking coursework at Peking University in Beijing, China to completing work service in Rio de Janerio, Brazil—we are so blown away! Before joining MSI, she served as adjunct faculty at North Park University for the Chicago Children’s Choir, Boys & Girls Town of Missouri. Now she gets to work with littles + families in the coolest museum ever, overseeing their membership program and individual philanthropy.
And not to boast or anything, but she was also recently placed on the Board of Directors for The Driskill Foundation, and has served on The Cradle Adoption Agency Associates Board since 2011, chairing in 2014. (Ok—who is this supermom?!)
Crystal loves spending time with her hubby Troy and little, Preston in the city and traveling abroad to experience new cultures and food. Preston already has a couple of stamps in his passport, and mom plans for him to have two more before he turns 2! Her favorite activities? Wine tasting and hiking – but not at the same time.

Little’s Name & Age: Preston, 20 months
Top Beauty Product You Must Have as a Mom: I think the beauty best investment I’ve made since I had Preston was in a good hair dryer. I had no idea how much time I could save but it’s literally cut things in half. I have a Sam Villa and it’s magical.
Favorite Lipstick Color: I love bright lipstick and I’m a YSL girl. My go-to red is Rouge Pur Couture No. 1. It’s just classic.
Top 3 Pieces of Kids Gear: We love our Radio Flyer EZ Fold Wagon. It is amazing – we can just break it down and pop it up to go to the zoo or beach on a nice day. I am also pretty obsessed with our Uppababy Vista. We bought the bassinet stand and used the bassinet as our bedside cradle when Preston was little. Now he still loves riding in the seat when we run to the store and the basket is big enough to do your entire shopping trip without a cart.
I never really liked any diaper bag. I mostly just use my J. Crew Uptown Tote and throw a few things in there. I have literally been in a meeting and pulled out a folder only to realize a Cheerio was stuck to the folder. But it’s such a great “everything” bag for home and work.
Favorite Kids Clothing Brand: I really love to shop at small boutiques because I always find really soft, comfortable stuff. We love Elevenzees in Wicker Park for baby gifts and I buy Preston’s pajamas at Sugar Cup in Oak Park. They carry KicKee Pants – it’s this great brand that makes the softest pajamas in the world with this adorable little flap on the back. They are too cute.
Activity You Love to do With Your Little: Honestly, I love taking Preston to museums and zoos. There is nothing like letting him experience culture and learn by touching and seeing for himself. We are so lucky to live in a city with amazing cultural institutions, so I take Preston as often as I can, and his nanny takes him to the Children’s Museum or Public Library almost every day that I can’t.
Your Secret Obsession When You Get an Hour to Yourself: I love get out and do something if I really have the whole hour to myself. I will usually catch a Dailey Method class or meet a girlfriend at Webster’s Wine Bar or The Happy Camper for a drink and a bite.
Closet Staple That You Can’t Live Without: I have a Black Leather Jacket I picked up in Buenos Aires that I wear all of the time, but my Black Louboutins are really special to me too. My husband bought them for me the day he proposed in Paris – so I will never get new ones – and luckily those shoes last forever so I won’t need to!
Favorite Snack Recipe to Make for Your Little: I make homemade pizza with Preston and he LOVES it. The process of cooking and making the dough is almost as much fun as eating it. My sister is a chef, and we use her dough recipe. Click here get the recipe.
